Re: ND&W Rehab Update

So that photo was at a crossing, that explains what I was seeing.

You know your photos are good when nit-pickers can zoom in and read the manufacturer's marks on the web of the rail.

Re: Indiana Northeastern's Western Extension towards Chicago

Bob,

Did you happen to see if they were still storing cars West of Coldwater?
This same line is active between Sturgis and White Pigeon, operated by Michigan Southern. At Sturgis, they turn the corner and serve a few customers on the former GR&I.

Re: Trains seen on NCD!

Fri17Dec2021 had some massive land-barges slog through Bluffton. 143 had a 3-2-0 dpu set up with 146 cars between the locomotives and 108 more behind the middle DPUs for a total of 254 cars. Not that long ago, 143 was only running 125 cars on average with 2 or 3 locomotives up front. A few trains la...

Re: Crew assignments

IIRC 18K/19K ran from Elkhart to Wabash on the ex-NYC and then into Peru (and beyond) on the ex-Wabash. Does that large seniority district work in the company's favor here?

Re: ND&W Rehab Update

85 to 136 would be a major upgrade. You sure it isn't 115 to 136?

Re: Then and Now on the EL at Huntington

3 things:
Where are the semaphores?
That's not a helper pocket track for the yard switcher pushing the westbounds out of the Wabash River valley, is it? I would think it would be further out of town. Doesn't the heavy grade go all the way out past the SR 5 crossing?

So is the other track protected somehow? If so, it’s out of the frame.

Re: Trains seen on NCD!

Sad to say, it appears the NCD is losing another customer. Due to a multi-elevator bankruptcy, the former Agland Grain (between the ethanol plant and silver street in Bluffton) was sold to a local farmer and they are in the process of dismantling it. Not sure at this time how much is going away, but...

Re: Larwill Indiana

How often is there a train going through in daylight? Since it is a E-W line you always get cross-lighting, which gives a shadow on one side.

A lot of people are having a bad day. (engineer, conductor, dispatcher, dog catch crews, track and signal maintainers, and so on)

My normal "luck" is one shot and eating dust. Though I haven't been up there since they started running monster PSR trains that can barely maintain 30mph.
