Re: Help with list of lake division locals

L46 works the Marion Branch all the way from Leesburg to South Anderson Yard. It goes different directions on different days of the week. It operates out of Goodman Yards in Marion. I have one to add to your list: L44, an auto parts job between the Fisher Body plant in Marion and the GM assembly pla...

Re: Claypool Northeast connector work.

Agreed. Some minor additional points: 1) No doubt about a 300 series between Fort Wayne and Elkhart. The 365 continues to run daily, employing the ridiculous route via Osborne and East Chicago. The new route will be much better for this train. Its counterpart, the 324, was annulled a few months ago-...

Re: Claypool Northeast connector work.

If I am wrong in what I am about to say, please correct me. I think that in order to understand the rationale for the new connector at Claypool, one needs to think in terms of trains that originate/terminate in Elkhart--rather than those that originate/terminate in Chicago. Two different animals. If...

Re: Fort Wayne Train Number Index - Greg

Clarification--the 171 was annulled at the first of the year and reinstated last Friday. In the interim, NS was running an occasional M71 (originating in Peru) for the cars destined for the UP in Salem IL which are dropped off in Peru every day by the 19K coming down from Elkhart. The 171 has always...

Re: Fort Wayne Train Number Index - Greg

171 just went through Wabash and Peru--so it apparently hasn't been annulled.

Re: Fort Wayne Train Number Index - Greg

Thanks for the info, on both the 263 and the 242.

Re: Fort Wayne Train Number Index - Greg

I don't think 263 is running any more, either. That was a Detroit to Voltz auto parts Triple Crown.

Re: Fort Wayne Train Number Index - Greg

I believe 242 is a Chicago to Bethlehem Triple Crown. I think it began running about a year ago. For a long time, it ran
east on the Chicago Line and was one of the few Triple Crowns that didn't go into Fort Wayne. It sounds like its route
has been changing around some lately.

Re: EL Question

I'm a little confused here. The Erie Lackawanna applied for inclusion when Conrail was formed, but they were denied. The US
govrnment decided it would be unwise to spend taxpayer money trying to save this line.

So--since EL was never part of Conrail, why was Conrail operating the line?

Re: ns operational changes on the NKP and wabash sides?

Chris--I thought of one other train that could be endangered: isn't the 272 (loaded racks eastbound) still running--
at least for now?

Re: New Train on the Wabash

Yeah, that's the L46, which comes out of Goodman Yard in Marion. It switches customers all the way from South Anderson
Yard to Leesburg and east on the Redkey to West Hartford City--depending on the day of the week. It gets up north on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Your suggestion makes way too much sense--therefore, it probably won't happen!!

Re: New Train on the Wabash

If this train goes via the connection at Wabash, I would think they'd about have to run with an engine on each end, two engineers, and a conductor. (You wouldn't want to try it with a long train, because the Wabash connection is halfway up the north hill at Wabash.) The L89, which runs six days a we...

Re: 21A and 21T rerouted

According to a post on the NCIR board, the 20A and 21A have been annulled by NS. Apparently the 20T and the 21T are now handling both the St. Louis and the Kansas City cargo--at least east of Decatur, IL. I don't know what they're doing west of there, but I do know that the 20A and 21A have not run ...

Re: 21A and 21T rerouted

Even though routes have been changed several times east of Fort Wayne, the 20A, 21A, 20T. and 21T have never stopped running through Wabash on the Huntington District during the past several years. I hear them on my scanner all the time and frequently watch them go through. The only change I am awar...
