Re: Van Wert Supersite

To revive a long dormant thread...

I drove through VW over the weekend on US30 and I saw the track to the north but couldn't get a good look at it. Looking at Google Maps it doesn't look like there is any business on this line. Is that the case?

Re: NW 611

I rode behind 611 in Summer 1991 (probably July) from Chicago -> Ft. Wayne and return.

Also summer of 1994 or 1995 there was a trip pulled by 611 from the Fort to Argos and back.

Re: Temporary fueling station behind Baker street station?

Conway - Mansfield, Mansfield - Ft. Wayne, Ft. Wayne - Chicago. Crew base Mansfield both directions, Ft. Wayne crew base for Chicago.

Thanks to Wes Lewis at the Indiana Railroads forum for that.

Re: NS run through trains on the CF&E...

I noticed yesterday there was a new sign at the PRR/ CN crossing in Van Wert. "Estrey" in what looks like PC green with white letters. Ken 8) On the Marion Branch, er, District the town signs for Warsaw on both the north and south sides of town are green with white lettering. Doesn't sound like any...

Re: NS Crews qualifying on the CF&E ?

11:35am this morning I saw what looked to be a westward light NS move. Single EMD unit but I couldn't see if there were any cars with it. If there were they were all gons or flats but I suspect it was running light.

Edit: forgot to add this was in Warsaw.

Re: Multiple tracks in street in Durbin st in warsaw.

Can't say for sure when they were last used, but the tracks went to the Litchfield Creamery Company at the SW corner of Durbin and Argonne. Originally served by the Winona Railroad the PRR later served it when the Winona called it quits.

Re: Columbia City Line Poles Down

I wish the code line were still active as it would mean the trees would be kept in check on at least one side of the ROW! It's getting tough to see the railroad with all of the trees being allowed to grow now.

Re: Columbia City Vandale Signage

Great shot! Code line, block limit signs, and the Capitol Limited.

A quick look at Google street view shows it's gone. The place with the pipes on the north side of the ROW looks to be encroaching the ROW a fair bit now.

That picture is where the Ft. Wayne Line connects to the CSX Porter Sub at Tolleston. Picture was taken from 10th Ave. as it's easy to find on Google Street View. https://maps.google.com/?ll=41.592863,-87.358067&spn=0.004772,0.004823&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=41.592898,-87.357825&panoid=QMgR3sHj3ZgFy0Ol...

Re: CF&E question

I can't remember if it was NS or CSX that put up all of the tags on the crossings with the number to call. I do know that when the CFE took over operations they just put a sticker with their name over the original name.

As far as NS using the CFE is concerned they are still using it. This morning I caught a stack train heading east through Warsaw.

Re: WB NS Detours on CF&E

Two NS detour trains went West from NS lines at Fort Wayne onto the CF&E.The first was 10,000',took on a Cf&E crew at Thomas Rd. app. 3 hrs. ago.The next was NS 23K about an hr. ago. It went West from Mike ,routed CF&E track authority also. I didn't catch whose crew. Whoever crewed 23K was letting ...
