Re: Familiar name publicized

WOW, 35 views and not a single comment from anyone? You must be the only subscriber. I used to read Trains pretty regularly. Probably still a good magazine, it just started to feel "watered down" a few years ago......so I kinda faded out as a regular reader

Re: PRR era question

That's a lot of interesting information! What does it signify when a city name is in bold font, compared to the cities listed in regular font?
Such as Fort Wayne compared to Crestline. (timetable)

PRR era question

In days of old, when knights were bold, what routing would the Broadway Limited follow between Canton OH and Pittsburgh PA?

And would a "typical" thru freight (destined for the P,FW,&C line) have followed the same path?

Re: Back Again

Maybe it would help if they vetted their contractors a little better?

Re: Back Again

This dawned on me today when I was admiring all the new road work on Goshen Road by Gateway Plaza and suddenly realized that the nice fancy new curbs with storm drains run right through what USED to be turn lanes. I was driving past Gateway Plaza this afternoon, and noticed that in some locations, ...

Re: Remarkable reference

It also seems a little odd that CF&E would be listed, since they don't even own any track where they do operate?

Re: Remarkable reference

. Some of it has to do with non-compliant paperwork to update information, like not filing the proper abandonment forms. Purchase agreements sometimes miss a section, etc. It really wouldn't surprise me if some of the old transactions were intentionally opaque, to conceal "questionable" tactics. Th...

Re: Remarkable reference

I believe that you are probably right Howard. I just found a "comparable" document from 2004, which Mentions only "N&W RR" as a railroad at that location, but even more troubling cites "Conrail" as the railroad lying between the Maumee river and Washington Blvd https://web.archive.org/web/2011061520...

Re: Remarkable reference

 I think they're referring to the union belt (not C.Ft.W.&E)-but it ain't there anymo.... Note that the following list progresses eastward from the top of the page. The shaded area is definitely east of Meyer Road. (you can right-click on the picture and select "open in new tab" and a full...

Re: Remarkable reference

That's just another day in the office for me. Well, I'll admit to being kinda voyeurish when it comes to this stuff. If I HAD to do it everyday then I'd likely be far less amused. :D I suspect that some of my fascination stems from the revelations about things which I pass by every day, that I neve...

Remarkable reference

For the highway "rivet counters" among you, here is a pretty detailed reference to the highway systems in Indiana, most recently updated in 2016. In the 1155 pages are listed all Federal Interstate, all US Routes, and all State highway routes inside the state of Indiana, listing the name of every ro...

Re: N&W 1256

Wonder what NS would charge for a movement like that? Their raw costs would have to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Re: N&W 1256

Those are great photos! It appears from looking at those that the answer to my question is that they partially remove some of the running gear, so that the wheel movement does not drag the pistons through needless movement? That's a remarkable steam engine, and it only gives us that much more to app...
