Re: Inpection train

Very strong rumors of NS very soon running coal/bulk trains on CF&E through Van Wert between Fort Wayne and Lima at least. Looks like it is going to happen. NS has the trackage rights and looks like they will use them again. Let's hope!

CF&E to get another G&W orange...CFE 3042

Saw on a flicker account a CF&E newly painted GP40-2 CFE 3042 on the head of a BNSF train in Albia, IA on 10/12/14. It is ex CORP 4023 which is a CFE unit used on the railroad. This will give the CF&E 4 G&W orange painted units: CFE 3316, 3023, 3024 and the 3042. 8)

Re: CN (Cincinnati Northern)

You may know this Notch, but the CN shops in Van Wert burnt down a couple years back. The last building in VW from the CN. The authorities were thinking arson, but no one was ever caught.

Re: WLE trackage rights to Lima

Yes, they did at one time. I don't believe it was more than a couple of times a week at any time. Train was usually very short. I even saw a WLE unit a GP35 with alco trucks at the I&O office one time. I don't think they've run a train to Lima in some time. Maybe someone will have a little more info...

Re: Van Wert Supersite

Ken, the company doing the work for the supersite trackage has been let go. They did something they shouldn't have to get their work done down by the diamond. Was a major infraction they should have contacted the railroad [CF&E]. But they didn't. Most of the work is done as you know, but ther...

Re: Van Wert Supersite

I agree the connector track is in pretty good shape, but that is what they told to my friend when he was out at the site. We don't think it needs it either. As far as the Washington St. crossing goes that heavy truck traffic will always be the problem. JW, that new crossing for the supersite is goin...

Re: Van Wert Supersite

JW, I agree on the Washington St. crossing. I heard before that the curve from the west is the problem for the Washington St. crossing. I believe one rail is higher than the other and that supposedly is the problem. I have no idea myself. It would be great if they could put in a NW quadrant track be...

Re: Van Wert Supersite

There is talk of CF&E and a contractor that they will upgrade the main track from the diamond clear out to Bonnewitz Ave. including the track in the NE quadrant plus a new diamond. That should take care of the current slow order in town on the CF&E mainline. Plus, there are grade crossings to be res...

Re: Van Wert Supersite

Yes, the ties are getting laid. 8) Supposedly, all the ties and the rail will be trucked in. There are union and non-union crews doing the work. Have saw RJ Corman trucks there, but not sure who is in charge. There is another company there to. Hopefully, all this will pay off in time. Looking for th...

Re: Where Diz 4/19/2013 ?

I'll guess along US 6 somewhere in Ohio/indiana. I'm figuring we should know the barn/homestead. If it's along US 6 answering the second question I would guess the jet train speed test.
