Re: Whatown 6-17-10

It is aslo my understanding that the Interubrban had a depot across the road from the mill down in strawtown Where the track left the RR and crossed yhe river at the Romy street bridge. The UTC did have a carbarn and power plant on the south side of the river along Romy Street. I believe the carbar...

Re: Where Diz ? 6/7/10

Bryan, Ohio? The first photo probably was shot with a telephoto lens, causing some major depth compression, throwing us off.

I don't remember why, but I have found notes that apparently CSX was detouring over NS in Jan/Feb 2005.

Re: Whatown 6-17-10

According to the 1900, 1910, and 1920 Sanborn maps, that siding followed Adams Street (now Davis) and ended about 700' east of Perry (now Meridian) Street. That's probably roughly just north of the school's oval track; the curving line towards Willman Road is just a ditch. As for industries... In 19...

Re: Just passing through.

There is still a ton of slag left behind in there too, as this was a spot they dumped slag for whatever industry. My grandfather told me it was the large glass plant out on the south edge of town where he grew up, could have been. The 1896 Sanborn map shows that the Hartford City Glass Co. was loca...

Re: Just passing through.

Did not know which building was used for passenger depot so included the seeming obligatory courthouse stop when passing through a county seat. Thanks for the photo quiz. The UTC depot in Hartford City still stands, minus the freight depot end, on the SE corner of Jefferson and Water Street. Here's...

Re: Where Diz ? 5/6/10

I'm guessing that the second photo is from just west of Coldwater, south of US 12:

Still don't have a clue about the first photo location though.

Re: WhereDis 4-19-2010

Hopefully someone will astound us with their encyclopedic knowledge or maybe someone will just let us know what they know. The ROW jogging so far away from the road to get to this bridge must have a story behind it. Any volunteers? Far as I can find, the Bluffton, Geneva and Celina never actually c...
