Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

I guess one of my concerns would be whether HJ can survive economically until the rest of the development catches up to it, and how much being out of short walking distance from the heart of the activity will hurt. You mentioned the Zoo, and I'll bet the City wishes it WAS downtown, NOW. Remember we...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Kelly, do you have any renderings of what a West Wayne Project would look like? I'm just not seeing this as great alternative. While it would solve a lot of problems, it just seems too out of the way to me. It seems almost like a repeat of Casad. You're only going to find it if you are looking for i...

Re: Fruehauf Trailer

As far as I know, the plant was built by Fruehauf, and what little information I was able to find indicates that this plant existed by 1936, but I haven't confirmed that. I don't believe there is any connection to the Pennsylvania RR, other than a location next to the yards. Keep in mind that in tha...

Re: PRR 4-4-0 No. 642 Fort Wayne IN

My dad used to buy all his cars there. I have some fleeting memories of being there when I was little. I don't know exactly when DeHaven bought them out, but my Chevelle was built the first week of May 1972, and it was delivered to Greigers. It couldn't have been too long after that, and I remember ...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

North River has is the thousands upon thousands cars that would drive by it every day and the proximity to Science Central, the Three River's Festival and the riverfront development. You can't put a price on that. Quite to the contrary, I believe that is exactly what they are doing. I'm having a ha...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

First off, I am not affiliated with Headwaters Junction in ANY way. I Just follow it very closely and have read, watched or listened to ever single thing I can find that has discussed it, and I have a pretty good idea what has been put out there. Now, West Wayne was mentioned. As far as I'm conceren...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

I can't provide detailed specifics, but I DO know that HWJ offered to take the far north end of the property, which I think most people would agree is the LEAST attractive part of the parcel, leaving a quite large chunk of land for other development. Otherwise all they need is enough room to thread ...

Re: Fruehauf Trailer

I wouldn't be surprised if the coal was delivered by rail. The plant had a good bit of trackage running through the west end, and some of it is still in the pavement and building floors. Looking at the setup, I would say that at least some if not most raw materials came in by rail at one time. I wou...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Steve, you mentioned a couple of things that stirred some thought. I tend to agree with your assessment about the Henry administration is cold at best to the project, but nobody else is jumping up to develop North River, so here we are holding out for pie in the sky and ignoring the only concrete pr...

Re: When film was king.

They did, when taken by really talented people under the right conditions and developed by people who knew what they were doing. None of that applies to me as a hack railroad photographer. Digital allows me to get many times closer to professional quality and the ability to fix errors and problems t...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

The point I was trying to make was that the people who ultimately hold the fate of Headwater's junction in their hands don't know about that and don't care. That's a rail fan thing, and they are not the problem here. This is a political thing right now.

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

First off, Kelly is passionate about what he believes in and he's trying to sell a vision. Right now he is a salesman, and as the saying goes, you don't sell the steak, you sell the sizzle. I don't see anything wrong with that. I think that those of us that are more acquainted with railroads and rai...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

I could completely off base on this, but in my opinion, unlike many of these others proposed projects, I don't know that Headwaters Junction asking all that much from city, just stop being a roadblock and let the project go forward on its own merits and ability to raise capital. The city asked for p...

Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

While going on the public record saying a lot of the right things, it seems as though the Henry administration is throwing every possible road block in the way of making this project a viable reality. I've become EXTREMELY frustrated by their lack of support and the fact that they don't seem to have...

Re: When film was king.

Boy now there is one thing I do not miss one bit is film. When I look at all the years of pictures ruined by rotten film and even worse developing and the inability to test shots on the fly, I just want to cry. Not to mention the cost and the waiting for the results, only to find out the pictures su...
