Re: FTW Railroad Museum

The number boards say 767?? Yes. #767 was the locomotive that participated in the dedication ceremony of the Nickel Plate elevation through Fort Wayne. After the steamers were retired, the city requested #767 for public display, but she was in very poor shape compared to #765, which was a favorite ...

Re: FTW Railroad Museum

I would say pretty soon after 765 was moved out there which was what, 1974-75?

Re: GONE

Well, that crossing doesn't really serve much of a purpose any more, and I'm sure neither the railroad or the city wanted to continue the cost of maintaining it. I HAVE often used it as a photo location though. Closing the street will probably be a good thing for me.

Re: Division Realignment

Other than the fact that Fort Wayne seems to slipping in importance in the Norfolk Southern world, it probably does not.

I can't imagine it was anything more than a glitch. If ANYBODY is going to get banned or shunned on this forum, it would probably be ME.

Re: CFE gets $4.5 million grant...

I think a lot of that stick rail on the Pennsy dates from the 1950's, but that's probably at LEAST 30 years newer than what the old Wabash has.

Re: CFE gets $4.5 million grant...

Does the government grant allow for the use of used materials, or does it HAVE to be new? If it has to be new, how many rail sizes are readily available? Regardless, if it is new rail, I sure hope it's coming from Columbia City.....

Re: Indiana Northeastern's Western Extension towards Chicago

I spent the entire day on Friday chasing INER trains from dawn to 4PM. I got to see a train of grain and tank cars go from Ashley to South Milford, and then followed a train from Ashley all the way to Coldwater, with switching at Fremont and Reading, and a change of power at Hillsdale. Julie gave me...

Re: Indiana Northeastern's Western Extension towards Chicago

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try that. I'm always hesitant to call somebody unless I know they really don't mind. I try REAL HARD not to be "one of those" railfans that is a pain in the a$$ for everybody. Last fall, I DID e-mail Southshore Freight about the service to Kingsbury, got a prompt reply,...

Re: New Castle District Project

For a LONG time I have wanted to take a day and go to Wabash and try to catch a BIG freight come northbound up the hill. This spring, I caught a big manifest with a DPU on it northbound at Marion. After it was too late, I asked myself why the heck I didn't take off and beat it Wabash..... :cr...

Re: New Castle District Project

I wonder if any trains will get rerouted to the Marion Branch while this work is underway?

I'm off work next week, was thinking about MAYBE trying to catch some INER action. Anybody have any good information for catching train movements?

Re: Eel River

You know, I have never really gave much thought to the Wabash's role in the elevation project. The history seems to have been written only from a Fort Wayne and a PRR perspective. I have no clue how much the Wabash contributed financially, but if cost was an issue, and considering that this would ha...

Re: Eel River

You bring up some good questions. I could certainly conceive the GM plant being where Steel Dynamics Columbia City is, or somewhere near it. I have mentioned it before, but I am still intrigued by the possibility that if the Wabash had been able to keep the Eel River, South Whitley might have develo...
