Huntington question

Post by dbrackin7 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 5:43 pm

While in Huntington Yesterday I noticed an old railroad crane. Near the intersection of market and center streets. It appears to be landlocked now, after looking at the building on google earth I noticed what appears to be a transfer table near it also. What was this building used for?

That is the Orton Crane Co. which was established in 1927. It appears they built small RR cranes like the one setting there, I don't know what else they may have produced. It appears they may still be in business servicing cranes that they may have built.
The Erie's roundhouse used to be just north of the Orton buildings.
