Hugo & 15Q Questions

Post by Jim » Sun Jun 02, 2013 11:33 am

Yesterday, 21T was at Lumbard and got the go ahead to leave. I was at Winter St. and as it went by, I noticed the Piqua signal on the other track had a high green. I was wondering what train had a higher priority than 21T. I left for Hugo and as I was going through downtown i heard the other train calling the signal at Mike. Whne I got to Hugo, 21T was gone and the rear of a rail train was going around the corner at Hugo. I tried to catch up with the rail train but never saw more then the end of the train. It was going 55 south of the airport. I gave up chasing it at Kingsland. My question is, did NS change Hugo so 2 trains could go through at the same time?

The other question, there has been a 15Q recently Fostoria/Chicago Dist. which seems to have have a high priority. Is this a fairly new train? Is there an eastbound conterpart?

Yes, a few years ago, NS reconfigured both NE tower and HUGO interlockings so two trains can pass thru at the same time (on non crossing routes, of course).

A little over a year ago, NS shrunk Baer Yard by the airport so the main is all straight rail again so trains can get out of town faster, otherwise, you might have caught up with the rail train.

It's been several years since Hugo was reconfigured, I believe Baer Field was downsized and straightened in 2010. When that was done, the speed restrictions were removed south of Hugo.
