corning glass/ paytons
it seems that wabash central has read my mind, A week ago I noticed a large string of cars parked on the old corning glass siding. If there wasnt an abandoned hopper already in its way I bet they could pack 50 or more cars on one siding. I looked on google earth and there are two sidings at corning, so maybe im wrong but around 80 to 100 if they pack them neatly.

They may need the permission of the owner to "store-for-hire" cars on the siding past the railroad r/w. In many cases the track beyond the edge of the r/w or some other point demarcated in a service agreement, is owned and maintained by the industry and not the railroad.
i.e. how would you feel if INDOT parked snowplows in your yard when they didn't need them after all the highway goes right by your house?

I would be glad maybe they would clear my street when they go to leave.
I get your point but corning glass has been shut down, and the rails aren't very healthy, and lord knows paytons wont use it. I believe if wabash were to purchase that It would help them tremendously especially when buckhorn finishes there 6 million dollar expansion, I would imagine they would need more cars and the sidings in bluffton can get congested quickly.

They can rehab the existing yard tracks in Bluffton cheaper than they can buy an entire property just to store cars. I remember a conductor in N&W days saying he had 100 cars to switch in Bluffton. That should be plenty of "Storage in Transit" capacity for Buckhorn. Now if NS needs to store cars for the ethanol plant, too, then it will get crowded quickly.

wrong paytons bulding, I am refering to the payton building which is the old corning glass factory which is now a warehouse. Anyway they would need to find a way to move the 20 year old hopper of the tracks anyway. And thats if the tracks hold up.
the rails cross maple road into the back of the plant. The hopper is next to the road. yet from google earth you can see there are two sidings, who knows how many cars can fit.
