So that's why there is a parking lot at the top of hill. Any idea what the Concrete forms at the bottom of the hill are for? NS employees have been working on them for a couple of weeks now. Here is a partial photo of one by J.S. of New Castle.CIOR wrote:I see Jett found the old Sears lot in New Castle....

Can't say with 100%, but they did the same thing in Hagerstown several years ago. They poured precastings for a bridge rebuild they did aound MP 84ish. They look the line out of service during Labor day weekend and in 2 days had the entire line reopened. Alot of the old PRR arch bridges are failing with age and more heavy use. So they remove the rail, ties, roadbed and dig out the old bridge, insert the precast bridge in sections and then reinstall rail, ties and ballast. 10mph for the first day and then track speed.
So without saying for sure, I would bet that one of the bridges close to New Castle is going to be replaced here soon, possibly Labor Day, since traffic slows on this line during that period. There is a small stone arch outside of Millville that I think was on the list years ago.
Yes Jett, as a dumb teen that use to be were we all gathered, until the cops put an end to that. New Castle was a drive, but everyone in their teens hung there on Friday and Saturday nights! Including me.

Here's a few shots of mine taken in 1986 in Montpelier, Indiana back before the likes of ML even knew what Norfolk Southern was

I rode on one of those excursions behind 765 around 1982-83 I believe it was. It may or may not have been part of the Three River's Festival?? We went to Muncie and they dropped us off for 2-3 hours to eat and mill around a bit, then we charged back north to the Fort. I remember tripping off the hotbox detector outside of Hartford City
It was the first "taste" of cinders hitting my face as we peered outside the vestibules. One helluva ride! I'm not sure if I could locate any pix though.
A year or two later as I recall, I remember 765 tag teaming with 611 blasting southbound through Montpelier on the NCD. I think that one woke up the dead
