NS 186 is back

Postby chowetrains » Sat Nov 07, 2009 8:40 pm

Well, its back sorta. I watched a train leave East Wayne today that called itself NS 186 but yet its consist looked kind of like an extra section of 306(lots of tank cars, covered hoppers, a lone cyro-trans boxcar, and other misc. freight). Its power was UP 8169(SD90MAC) and NS 2542. I talked to a friend later on today and he told me he heard a 186 leave yesterday so NS is definitely reusing it again.

Is NS still running extra sections of 306? and did 186 come from the wabash or Chicago? I also heard that 146 has been reinstated as well.

Per my friend, NS 186 was running east on the Chicago District(ex NKP) early this morning. I watched the train leave town today after it had worked at East Wayne again with NS 2682 leading it.

Routing on the 186 is Chicago-Linwood, NC and the 146 from Decatur to Bellevue. The 174 and 170 have been going thru Ft Wayne the last day or two due to the outage at CP230 CSX diamond in Muncie and with a bridge outage on the Marion Branch at Wabash. Who knows, when the Claypool connector is finished they may stay off the Branch (between Muncie and Claypool) for good along with the 144. Only time will tell but many are not holding their breaths and rumors are flying. CIOR knows how them rumors are :D

Ya, railroad rumors, craphouse rumors, all worthless.
If there was ever an ounce of truth, it would be a world record.

Just Monday night as I was heading home, W06 (2nd 306) was at the Reduction Center waiting on 587 at NE getting power off the pit (I think) with 186 behind W06 waiting around Anthony and 306 was passing Dunfee.

dang! three trains back to back to back, and count in 14E, 146, and 272, and the Fostoria District probably came alive monday night with six eastbounds. thats hard to fathom :D And whatever 587 was, it sounds like the Nickel Plate was jam packed with trains. Kinda makes me wish i was living back in Bellevue or along the Fostoria district somewhere  . but sometimes as we all know, the fostoria district can be deader than a doornail at times.
