place for a get together

Post by rrnut282 » Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:46 am

Another possibilty would be TRAX Hall on Nuttman Ave. It's on the Huntington District with a view of the WB signals at HUGO (from the parking lot). I'm not sure if it has A/C or not. On the other side of HUGO is The Lantern, site of the March train show. (again a view of the EB signals from the parking lot) I know it has A/C, but it might be more expensive.

I had also thought about the Trax Hall, but I forgot about the Lantern. I've thought about contacting Erie Haven to see if we could use their lot at NE for the day. Anyone have any idea how friendly they are to railfans? I've never talked to any of the guys so I don't know if it's even in the realm of possibility.

Wherever we decide to be, I'll have the ATCS rig setup and going for all to check out and monitor throughout the day. I recently got a new scanner and will have a new antenna in the very near future I hope, so range will be at least 10 miles I'm hoping.

I'd like to see ATCS in the flesh, so to speak.

I'm not sure if Erie Haven will have much to say about fans using the parking lot as it doesn't belong to Erie-Haven. They just lease the space from the RR.

Rob

I think we are checking out available spots to see what is the cheapest with out to much out of pocket expense. Maybe our fearless leader here (Greg) Can get us a deal where he works on one of those conference rooms and he can supply some of that great food he cooks...

Just checking, hope its fall if i can make it, not really into standing outside in 90 plus degree weather, and this sounds like a good deal of the time would be outside.
thanks again

Here's an idea on where to hold it. Waterloo, Indiana. The park across from the NS on the North side of the tracks. It has an open sided building with electricity, restrooms and grils to cook out. The down side is it does not get dark until 915pm.

Hmm, I never thought of that. Maybe we could put a tent up across the street in the old station lot. Restrooms would be right across the street. Now that I think about it, theres a small park here in Ft Wayne on the Wabash right where it crosses Anthony Blvd.

I don't mean to be a pain, but aren't we running out of summer? It's almost September and I consider that fall.

I'll definitely be out there, maybe both days. I have some faces I need to put with names, including Mr. Lynch. Hopefully I won't be in the same work geddy-up that I was in when I met a few of you on the test run back in March. I know some of ya'll were thinking "getta look at this dude in his jalapeno covered cotton pants and chef coat!"

As for the get-together; I prefer fall. This past weekend would have been perfect weather-wise.

Anyone looking to get a railfan get together going. I ask you all to look at your calendars for next year. June - September and give your ideas on when you would like to see one happen. I only ask not one to happen the 3rd weekend in July since that is Van Wert, Ohio RR day's. I am thinking of maybe getting the Lantern for the day and checking other possibilities. Looking for all ideas.

Mike
