Wheres Diz ? 9/17/09

Post by Notch 8 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:59 am

Up on the Michigan Board from time to time people on the list will post a picture taken within MI and usually the poster will tell if it is SW Michigan or SE Michigan and etc. my question is would the people on this board be open to something along these lines, and being so close to 3 different states I was thinking about using the 3 states like NW Ohio and Southern Michigan, my other question is where would this go on the board ?

Example:

Where Diz ?
Taken in Northern IN this week,

I'm definitely up for it. If I see some other interest I can go ahead and create another category to put it in. Sounds like a good way to pick up a little more interest around here.

I'll start with an easy one.
Taken this afternoon in Allen County.
Hint:the train was not leaning.
I think "where is its' should be posted in a
new category of "pains in the azz".

Thanks

Your pic you linked to in your first post was taken near Lagro, IN. The second is so obvious its ridiculous. NE diamond, New Haven, IN from my local spot nicknamed "the perch". BTW, was that 15E by chance? If it was, its running kind of late.

It called signals "M45".
Looked like 15E. Loads of pipe
and the UP power at 5:20 P.M.
Perch is Webmaster Lavoie's term.
Fluffy never called it that. But, he took
more photos at NE than anybody in history.
D.L. can tell us more.

Okay, then its Andrews, IN where the NS crosses over the river and a county road. I know its somewhere near there, that much I'm certain because I've seen that dang bridge before down there!!!! BTW, per confirmation from another source, that NE shot WAS M45 which I'm told originated from Bellevue yard yesterday.

East of Hamilton IN is the correct answer ! the picture was taken on 9-15 with a cut of grain cars headed to Edon OH to pic up another set of grain cars before heading onto Montpelier OH. the INER has bee a very busy shortline this year. dropping alot of new ties into the Old Gary District. right now they have filled in an old wooden trestle west of Helmer Indiana this trestle was constucted back in 1931 with wooden pilings and they didnt have the desire to take the NS 6 axle power over such a trestle, so it was filled in with a new tile inplace of where the tresle once stood. They have just dropped new 80' sections of stick rail at the Steubenville curve that goes up into Michigan this is to be replaced next week. I have also seen rail on this line dating back to 1909 as well so they now have iron that spans 100 years. the new rail was from SDI Columbia City it is 115# rail.
I thought this would throw some people off. no one expected the NS power on anything other than a NS line. Douglas must be from the area.

Well Mike, there really IS a bridge that looks IDENTICAL to that one on the Wabash line down by Lagro and Andrews and I've shot video of a train crossing it in the past. I guess that's a testimate to the Hamilton line's ex Wabash heritage that its bridge would be identical in construction to the one used on the mainline.
