Buckeye Yard

Post by rrnut282 » Wed May 06, 2009 9:21 am

This is slightly off-topic for this site, but NS announced last week that it was shutting down Buckeye Yard in Columbus, OH. I'm not as familiar with Origin/Destination of trains through the fort as I should be. What, if any trains here in the fort will be affected by this shutdown?

It has been a long time since I've paid attention.
Maybe 19R.

The yard hasn't been shut down, but rather "idled" due to the downturn in business. Nearby Watkins Yard is picking up the slack. All switches have been spiked in Buckeye as it will lie in a mothball state for the near future. I've heard some guys say that NS has always wanted to get rid of Buckeye and this may be the chance....sure hope not though.

Sell it to the Ohio Central...LOL

Ya, I remember after the Conrail split up that NS didn't want it and neither did CSX. NS took it as it fit better to them.
I'm shocked it took them this long to close it up.
A buddy said they started moving cuts there before it was shut down, said it was suppose to be used as a storage facility for extra cars.

I'm not sure if any of these trains had ever been routed to/through the Fort but here's some info at least on Buckeye trains:

10M abolished
11M abolished

And with that a new train has been added:
15Q originates in Bellevue and runs to Elkhart 3 days per week

These trains will have blocking and or schedule changes:
14K
15K
185
274

I used to see 31M on the Waterlevel Route, now I hear it coming through the fort. This happened a week or two ago, so was also a result?
