765 Fire Up Monday 5/15

Post by nathansixchime » Sun May 15, 2011 7:00 pm

We'll be performing a test fire on the 765 tomorrow if anyone would like to stop out.

The later in the day the better chance of seeing the locomotive under power and in steam after the morning light off. It'll take 6 hours to get up to operating pressure. It will be an all day event.

There's also an N&W canteen on the property now if anyone wants a look. We've leased it from the Virginia Museum of Transportation to expedite our ferry moves.

Does this mean you guys are close to deadheading for North Judson yet? :D I had several folks over at the Homewood, IL trainshow asking about when this move was going to take place.

If all goes well tomorrow, that'll be the case. We'll be posting updates on Facebook/Twitter over the next two weeks.

Made the front page of the Journal-Gazette. IT'S ALIVE.

Seeing that made my blood pressure drop about 10 points. :)

So what caused the minor derailment over the weekend?

The railroad is presently investigating the cause, but stick rail in an old grade crossing can take a beating with road traffic and tie wear.

Believe it or not If I knew my wheelchair wouldn't get stuck then I would do it, but that brush looks thick enough that I doubt anyone would find me if I went in. :D
