Connector Track at Claypool Junction

Post by Gary Berkey » Sun Feb 19, 2012 2:01 pm

I was talking to a friend yesterday morning, he's quite knowledgeable about operations on the Marion District of Norfolk Southern. He told me that NS has been running most New Castle District trains in both directions via the connection track at Claypool Junction, as opposed to via the connection track at Alexandria Junction. He told me only one train takes the Alexandria connection now, a northbound i believe. He thinks this change happened in January. The reason, he told me, was NS wants to eliminate the crew pool at Muncie. My question, is this information accurate and what trains take the Claypool connection now besides 365/366? TIA Gary

Occasionally, 174 or 144 will go via Fort Wayne, but I haven't seen them consistantly. But, I could be wrong, as I'm not home as much.

NS is only running the 142 north out of Muncie via Alexandria, to Elkhart, but are still running the grain via this routing.
There are running the other trains up north to Fort Wayne to Claypool then to Elkhart.

Rumor is that NS doesn't want to pull the ME pool just yet.

So this should be the break down
South of Wabash only sees 311,312, 142 and grain
North of Wabash you gain 19k,18k,13k,12k plus any grain to or from Peru
North of Claypool you gain 174,175,143,144 365 and 366 and I would guess a grain train or 2 still could come in at Claypool since those trains seem to run about any route

Am I missing anything other than the locals?
Rob

Again, I'm not home, but it does seem to be busier going by the house (North of Muncie on the NCD) these days. :D
