Van Wert Supersite

Post by h2466 » Sun Mar 10, 2013 4:48 pm

Yesterday I had time to check out the north end of the CN in Van Wert and to my surprise I seen a dozer and survey markers from the current end of track north. They have also been cutting trees and brush back from the ROW. I have yet to check out the second crossing of the town creek or the crossing of SR 127. Ken 8)

This would make a neat little modeling project.

The track will head straight towards the US 30 bridge supports then curve to the right following the town creek.

Looking north again. The rails on the right are for the former siding to Carter lumber.

Looks like they are making good progress. Going to be interesting to see the RR built nowhere. 8) Thanks Ken for taking the pics and for taking the time.

While yes it is alot of Money.... I commend the City of Van Wert for making the effort to market this Property, Big Companies DO look for Shovel Ready Sites... and to have this large of a site/1600 acres ! Something good should become of this, We can Hope ? I'm from Steuben County Indiana and I have no faith that the local Government could have pulled something like this off, Yet something like this is exactly what Steuben County needs... The Honda Facility would have been good for Van Wert's local economy, Lets hope they land something big and that it uses the Railroad !

Wapakoneta has a dream too,a track to nowhere. They even have I75 and US 33 plus CSX and can't get anybody in their site either.CSX has all this great marketing and still nothing on the land. Van Wert was used as a bargaining chip by Honda to get Indiana to give more benefits to move to Greensburg.Wapak was also used by a car company.Doubt if the scrap dealer loads anything out.Scott Equity can't be figured in on this as they are located on the old part.Maybe they can have car storage to help recoup the money.

Van Wert area only has one big venture,WIND. There is another farm getting ready for Grover Hill then down in our end of the county.

I saw a couple of trucks carrying rails (attached to ties) through Willshire Friday or Saturday afternoon. Dunno if they were headed for Van Wert or where they came from. Curious routing, I thought, though I don't where where they came from.

I made a quick drive by the site today and didn't see any track panels Zuluwiz. I did notice that they have put up the silt fence along the future ROW which means there going to start moving dirt soon. Also seen the former Marsh barn has been razed. I will try to get out and get some updated pictures this weekend. Ken 8)

The work on the Supersite is moving right along. They are now working on the section between the new bridge and the connection with the former CN. Ken 8)

I'm in the ditch. the 2nd tier is were the track will be and the 3rd tier is actually track height. Looks like a lot of fill will be required. The CN connection is to the far left
