Cutover to PTC on the NS Chicago Line

Post by Notch 8 » Wed Feb 07, 2018 5:30 am

I was told today that the cutover to PTC is to occur February 25th, do not know if this just applies to Ohio or if that means the Indiana section too ? I bet the new stuff won't last as long as whats being replaced ? By the looks of some of the installs it is safe to say they didn't have a level in the Job Box ? NS Crews were busy from Butler to Wauseon working trackside.

The signal lean seems systemic. Bad backfill will get ya almost every time.

A lot of the Chicago Line installs were done by contractors if I remember correctly (seems like many, many years ago now). I wonder if they were setting these foundations on top of fill material without properly tamping it to begin with. The bungalow at CP-352 comes to mind as one where a huge amount of fill was brought in. One can only hope that the party's responsible for the shoddy installs will be compelled to come back and straighten things up rather than seeing all these crooked signals for the next 50+ years.
