Muncie,IN railfanning advice

Post by joe22a994 » Tue Dec 25, 2012 8:02 pm

I'm planning to take a trip down to Muncie for a day to watch trains. I want to know where some good spots are and what frequencies to use.

Walnut St or Council St is on SW side of downtown where some of the "regulars" (on the Indiana fansite) hang out. The best you can hope for at any other crossing is two out of the three rail lines in town. Council is less busy auto-traffic-wise and 6th Street is just around the corner (literally walking distance) so you can catch anything on the New Castle when CSX is quiet.

The same dispatcher covers both the New Castle and Frankfort Districts so 160.44 keeps you informed on NS trains in the areas. 160.800 is used by CXS as this is a former Conrail (NYC) route. You will want to keep 160.230 and 160.320 active for CSX, also.
