I think it is on the Erie line. It is located on the east side of Decatur Indiana crossing the St. Marys river at GPS N 40° 49.510' W 084° 54.890' . It is now part of the Decatur Parks Dept. River Greenway.
I would like to know when this was built and by who and any other interesting trivia about it.
I'm geocaching and own the cache right next to it and would like more info about it to put on my cache page.

:( I would rather see trains cross it than to walk across it. One side is still available for train useage, since it was a 2 tracker. I love seeing the trains cross it in the EL videos!

No trains go across it anymore. There no rails at all. One side has the ties and the other is boarded for the walkway.

It was last used by the Chicago & Indiana in the Fall of 1979. I don't remember seeing the builder's plate. I will guess it was built when the Erie was double tracked, around 1915. Joe

I found where I'm guessing the builders plate WAS on top of the concrete foundation wall on the east end of the bridge on the north side. Someone tried to steal it some years ago and when they tried to pry it loose from the concrete broke it to pieces. Only a couple small pieces of cast iron remain. Or should I be looking elsewhere for it. Where would it normally be placed on a bridge like this? Where else should I look?

Donfixit,
Nice to see another cacher. I've not done much in the last year-year and half.

As for the bridge, not too sure about the info, other then it was a Erie bridge. Perhaps the local historical society has more info. The book I have on the Erie doesn't go into details on the bridge.
