Saturday I went on a kayak search for remnants of the dam that pooled water for the feeder canal. The pond it created was also used by visitors to Robison Park.
The only remnant I found was the weir at the end of Swift Run ditch, across the river from Riverbend golf course. The ditch bypassed the weir some time ago; whether naturally or by design I don't know. Note the substantial wall at right, and none at left, suggesting that something was removed on the left side.
The small two rails in the middle of the weir are about 4 inches high and 6 inches apart. They were the guide for a sluice gate that is no longer in place.
The concrete poles that formerly supported the overhead power lines along Ft. Wayne's street car routes are now serving erosion control duty along the riverbank.
Find an old ROW or want to know what the name of that one tower along the EL was? Post any historical questions or comments here. Open to any era from around the Ft Wayne area. Interurbans welcome!
