The caboose has been gone from the Restaurant for sometime now, However the Caboose can still be seen sitting of St Rd 3 south of Avilla on the east side of the road as well as a former Southern X-series caboose. I miss Burger Chef !

Many of those pictures were taken by my great Uncle Phillip Pepple. He took many pictures of trains and interurban raillines in the kendallville area.

Sturmtiger:
Was Phillip Pepple the agent at the interurban depot on S. Main St.? I have c.1936 photos taken there by a Pepple.
Nice photos Mike.
I was recently advised that the NYC/GR&I diamond at KVille was taken out in 1975.

Yes, one in the same. He later was the Traffic manager for Flint and Walling. Didn't notice it before but that picture of Burger Chef was taken by my father David Manuel. As to the crossing, I can't say for sure but I am pretty sure it was later than that. More like very early 80's. 75 was when 4449 went through and I am almost certain it was still there then.

Without the pole, the 1st. photo might be
a Ted Xaras painting ! He's done Pittsburgh
commuter engines like that, only with older
tenders. This thread brings back memories of
our Flint and Walling well pumps.
Thanks for a great set of photos.

I remember Hardee's well. Too bad they are gone as i always liked their burgers and sandwiches compared to the others. I remember the caboose that was out front in PC paint until it was repainted into the gaudy Hardee's theme..

BELIEVE IT OR NOT: THERE WAS ROOM IN THAT CAR FOR HIM AND HIM ONLY. IT WAS FULL FRONT AND BACK. HE SAID " I LIKE TO BE PREPARED" AND I GUESS HE WAS. THIS WAS BEFORE HE WORKED FOR THE RAILROAD. HE DID LIKE TO TALK !!!
