Fort Wayne map 1885

Interesting how this map repeats the "errors" of so many other maps by showing the Fort Wayne, Muncie, and Cincinnati extending beyond Junction all the way to the Cass street depot. :wink:

ICC's 1917 valuation report on the LE&W says that FWM&C (LE&W's predecessor) completed construction of the track south of Hugo in 1870.

The report says that FWM&C and FWJ&S jointly constructed 1.66 miles of track north from Hugo, of which LE&W owned 2/3 and NYC owned 1/3 at the time of the report. 1.66 miles is the distance from Hugo to Junction. An 1870 3-way agreement included GR&I in construction of that section of track, but GR&I apparently opted out and FWM&C kept its 1/3.

The report says that pursuant to an 1881 agreement, LE&W paid rent to NYC for use of 1.76 miles of track and use of FW&J's depot. 1.76 miles is the distance from Junction to the Cass St. depot. There was probably an earlier agreement, because FWM&C moved from Wabash's passenger depot to FWJ&S's Cass St. depot in late-1872, at least in part.

I didn't find anything in the report about LE&W's use of the track from Cass St. to the 4th St. yards, or its use of the 4th St. yards, which FW&J owned. I'll go back and read it again sometime, because it should include something about joint use of the 4th St. yards. FWM&C began construction on its 4th St. shops in Oct. 1871.

Just noticed this. If you look at the 1919 Sanborn Maps, The New York Central (LSMS) is shown on their map as the railroad for the entire route from Junction to the North city limits. However the freight house at 4th and Clinton is listed as the NYC RR and LE&W RR freight house
