Bird's Eye View South Whitley Indiana

Post by Notch 8 » Mon Jan 07, 2019 5:44 am

Undated postcard but a very good view of the Eel River Railroad and the NKP Railroad at South Whitley Indiana

Source:Whitley County Historical Museum Image ID# 2017_182_05

I got to tour a former residence of Thomas Riley Marshall the 28th Vice President of the United States.
Definitely worth the visit as this place is full of Whitley County artifacts.

This is looking east at a local freight on the NKP. SY tower is at the junction. The Vandalia (Eel River) depot is at right, and NKP's depot is partly visible in the trees on the right side of the track past the diamond. SR-5 runs left (north) to right (south) behind the tower.

Go there and try to figure out where all of this was located.

I forgot to mention that the photo was taken in 1911. Someone made a photo inventory of the town.
