Kendallville once served by 2 Railroads and 1 Interurban, 2 of the City's largest Employer's were Flint & Walling and the other McCray Refrigeration and both companies built in Kendallville and shipped all over the World and was a good source of traffic for all 3 roads.
NYC Station circa, 1973
Looking SE
Looking east alongside the LS&MS tracks. In this photograph a man stands by his velocipede, a hand powered cart used to travel on the tracks. These were usually used by section gang foremen to check on their crews working on the railroad. Union Depot is at extreme right with the interlocking switch tower between the man and depot. The McCray factory can be seen in the distance at left. Circa 1910
This is looking southeast toward the Flint & Walling factory. The stacks of lumber were used in the manufacturing of windmills. Circa 1910. Another Knight photographer card. Unused, circa 1910
This is a view of the Rabor, Wiltrout & Lang Mfg. Company. The backs of houses on North Main Street can be seen in the background. This was north of Grove Street and alongside the GR&I RR tracks. Circa 1910
Looking southeast across the tracks at the Flint & Walling factory. Postmarked August 17, 1910
This is identified as a lake Shore & Michigan Southern Rail Road track section gang in Kendallville. An arrow points to the man with his foot on the rail and identifies him as Russel Wills. A New York Central boxcar is behind them. Card is unused, circa 1910
This is looking west as an eastbound Lake Shore & Michigan Southern train approaches the depot.. Postmarked December 31, 1913

Pictures like this tend to make me so angry with myself.
As a youngster I had so many relatives who were old old old. I was so caught up in myself and what my future might hold, that I was totally disinterested in the experiences they had lived through.
Of course I wasn't smart enough back then to have a decent list of questions to ask them. But looking at pictures like these always makes me wish I could take each one of them and ask them ten questions about what they were going through, and how they saw the world at various times.
Thanks for posting these pictures

Until they make time-travel available to the masses, this is the next best thing.

Nice pictures. Does anyone know why and when the second story was removed from the depot?
